Feature: West Alum Burns Living Out Hoops Dream in Europe

I used to write freelance for Community News Service, a New Jersey-based news service which provides a number of publications for local residents. One of my first stories with CNS was on former DII Player of the Year Christian Burns, a Hamilton West basketball star who turned his success at Philadelphia University into an overseas playing career spanning more than a decade. My profile on Christian dove into his experiences in bouncing from country to country each year and what the travel taught him off the court about different cultures. The story was published in the Hamilton Post, and is also available online.

After I finish broadcasting games for KATE, I also write up game recaps for the station’s website. This is my recap of a recent Albert Lea girls’ hockey game, which also includes highlights from the broadcast and my postgame interview with the Albert Lea head coach.

At Syracuse, I wrote for an Orange-centered recruiting-based site called Orange Fizz. While the Fizz prides itself on breaking recruiting news, we also wrote game recaps and analysis, and liked to have our fun as well. Below are two of my posts from when I was on the Orange Fizz staff — one on then-Orange point guard Frank Howard, and another more entertaining piece on a promotion to dress like Jim Boeheim at an SU basketball game.
